I’ve been looking at book subscription boxes for a while, but I’ve been put off by high prices and themes that I’m not that keen on.
I stumbled across Reading in Heels on Instagram a few weeks ago and was impressed with what it was offering. At an affordable £10 a month for a book and some goodies, this seemed right up my street.
3 days into the month, July’s box has just landed on my doorstep and here’s a little peek at what’s inside…
Contents:
1. Home Fire by Kamila Shamsie
2. Sweat Theatre Honeycomb Milk Chocolate thanks to @SweetTheatreLtd
3. Phase Zero Liquid Lipstick in Postbox Red from @lovemebeautyuk
4. Taylors of Harrogate Hot Java Lava Coffee Bag
5. A cute pocket mirror
First thoughts:
This book has recently been announced the winner of the Women’s Prize for Fiction 2018 and has been nominated for all kinds of awards since being published. Described by The Guardian as being “a powerful exploration of the clash between society, family and faith in the modern world”, I’m excited to get reading. Look out for my review in the next few weeks! (update: see my review here)
I’m not a coffee drinker myself, so I’ll have to pass this on, but who doesn’t love a lipstick and a bar of chocolate?
I really appreciate the colour scheme to the box. Everything is a firey yellow, red or orange and it’s clear that a lot of thought has gone into the planning to make everything look perfect.
I particularly like the social book club aspect of this box. The website hosts an online review forum where readers can discuss the book of the month and I’m sure to get involved once I’ve finished the book. They also provide a cute card to help review each book yourself, ideal for Instagram or Twitter.
I’m impressed with July and am looking forward to seeing what August brings!
Have you tried any book subscription boxes? Let me know what you thought of them in the comments!
You’re making me wish I lived in the UK (although I often have wished exactly that) so that I could get my hands (& eyes) on that lovely reading package! I’ll have to look into what’s available in Canada! Looking forward to a review of the book!

Thanks very much for reading and subscribing Cathy! I hope there is something similar in Canada. It took me a while to find this one, so perhaps all it takes is some research!

What a cute idea! Did you have to inform this place what kind of books you like? I would hate for you to go through a month hating the book!

No, you don’t have the opportunity to let them know what you like with this box. That tends to be a feature of the more expensive boxes. This box only sends contemporary fiction but I know there are so many more out there if that’s not your thing! 📚

Finally got home to my box! So happy with the book as it was on my list to read and can’t wait to tuck into the chocolate 😍 did you like the lipstick? I wasn’t a fan of the colour which is a shame. 🤗📚

I’ve actually not tried the lipstick out properly but I think you’re right, it may be a bit bold for me! Glad you finally received your box! 📚
