Is there ever a perfect moment to begin again in life?
Ever since tragedy threw her life into turmoil, Laura has taken refuge in her waitressing job at Valentino’s restaurant in Glasgow’s leafy Fairhill. Serving lattes and lunch specials means she’s too busy to think about all she lost or the dreams she was forced to abandon. So when her beloved boss announces she’s selling the business, Laura is devastated. Hatching a plan to set her up with the local pub owner, Laura hopes the two of them will make a connection that might just change her mind.
Recovering from betrayal and heartbreak, Bruce is also in hiding from the world and working in his uncle’s pub while he wonders how to restart his life. When Laura asks for help with her matchmaking scheme, he finds himself unable to refuse. She has a smile he can’t resist, no matter how much he wants to.
But as their plan is set in motion, the matchmakers begin falling for each other. Yet Laura thinks she’s happy with her dull boyfriend and Bruce won’t risk another broken heart. As the future of Valentino’s hangs in the balance, can these two lost and lonely people find the perfect moment to start their lives again together?
“The Perfect Moment” is a heartwarming romance focused around four main characters…
Leading lady Laura has been working in a local restaurant as a waitress for the past ten years. She’s in a relationship with a man that she’s not too keen on and he seems to prefer going to the cinema with friends over spending time with her.
Natalie is Laura’s boss as the owner of Valentino’s – the family run restaurant that she ran for many years with her husband Angelo. A couple of years after her husband’s death, Natalie is now looking to sell the restaurant and travel around Italy to the places she has only dreamed of until now.
When she finds out that Natalie is planning to sell her restaurant, Laura is deeply upset, not just by the prospect of losing her job in a place she loves, but also at having to say goodbye to her good friend. So she hatches a plan to find Natalie a man, with the idea that if she’s in love, she won’t want to leave.
The man Laura has her eyes on as a suitable match is Keith. Keith owns The Crooked Thistle, the pub across the street from Valentino’s. He’s a lovely guy, but seems to be unlucky in love, always falling for the wrong kind of woman.
To set these two up, Laura needs the help of Bruce. Bruce is Keith’s nephew and has recently moved back to Glasgow following a messy divorce. He’s heartbroken, trying to get over his ex-wife and the loss of the business he worked so hard to build down in London.
“The Perfect Moment” is full of romance, it’s warm and fun, and it gives you the chance to escape from reality for a little bit. It can be easy to roll you eyes at romance novels which can sometimes be a little unrealistic, but it’s nice to relax and read something positive and upbeat for a change!
This is author Alix Kelso‘s debut novel, and considering that, I’m rather impressed! I’ve since found out that she is developing a series of books set in the fictional town of Fairhill and I look forward to seeing where the stories of these four characters end up.
Overall rating: “The Perfect Moment” is a fun, feel-good romance that will leave you with a smile on your face. The four main characters are likable and warm and you’ll be routing for them all to have happy endings!
