Thoughts:

What a fun read!

I listed to Dolly’s interview as an audiobook but I’m not quite sure how this would work on the page. The audio is basically Dolly being interviewed about her songs and the stories behind them all, alongside snippets from the songs here and there. It’s really nice to hear Dolly speak so candidly about her life and the stories that she has chosen to share with the world, and her giggles throughout really did put a smile on my face!

I didn’t really know much about her before going into this book so I found it really interesting to hear about Dolly’s background, her childhood and her experiences along the way. She speaks with such passion and seems to love every single song that she’s written. I also quite liked hearing about her programme, ‘The Imagination Library’, which I’d never heard of before, providing free books to children each month. Dolly Parton is clearly a woman with a lot of heart and appears to be extremely generous.

I really liked this read and I looked forward to picking it up each time. I went into this interview with just a little interest in Dolly Parton, but I’ve finished it a massive Dolly fan. I loved this one!

Overall rating: “Dolly Parton, Songteller: My Life in Lyrics” is basically a long interview with Dolly herself in which she tells her story and tells us more about the songs that have made her who she is today. She’s had a fascinating life and she tells it with such passion. Loved it – 5 stars!
