I found that this book didn't work for me. I enjoyed the first few chapters but I felt like I couldn't connect with the main character while jumping back and forth in time. I'd have loved a book with a little more Tracey and a little less Aimee, a little more school days and a little less plodding along building a school in Africa. After wanting to read this for so long, I'm sad to say it's 2 stars for Zadie Smith's "Swing Time".
A fascinating glimpse into the life of a Royal we don't really talk about much these days. I don't think I had ever heard of Princess Margaret before watching "The Crown" and that really is a shame as she certainly was an interesting woman! This book was a little long for my tastes as there is only so much gossip you can take before it starts to feel mean, yet I'd still recommend this for fans of the Royal Family. These "99 Glimpses of Princess Margaret" get 3 stars from me.
"The Boy on the Bridge" didn't offer much in terms of action, it was bland and it was slow. The characters weren't likeable and many of them were completely forgettable. While I appreciate getting to fill in the gaps in the background to Melanie's story, this has nothing on the first book and left me feeling really disappointed (and angry!). It's 2 stars from me!
After spending the first week of August away in the countryside, I was so glad to return to work to find my August Reading in Heels Subscription box waiting for me on my desk...
