Again I'm underwhelmed by Jessie Burton, and I'm beginning to think that perhaps she's not the author for me. "The Miniaturist" started well but couldn't really keep me interested and its 400+ pages dragged on quite a lot which definitely didn't help the situation. I didn't hate it but I won't be recommending this book to anyone in a hurry - 2 stars.
Bridget Jones's Diary was an easy four star read for me. It's certainly not the best book ever written, but it's fun, British and so relatable. Who hasn't had body insecurities, faced a stinking hangover or felt the judgement of others? I'd recommend this book for fans of the film - read it and fall in love with Bridget all over again!
I somehow found myself immersed in the world of Dorte Hansen, a bored, lost young woman trying to find her place in the world. Nothing that happens is all that interesting, but that's kind of the point. I didn't love it, but I still enjoyed it so it's 3 stars from me.
"I Let You Go" seemed a promising read when I picked it up but this really wasn't for me. While it started well I started to lose interest somewhere in the middle and didn't care for any of the characters or what happened to them. I like thrillers to grip me throughout and keep me on my toes, but this one sadly couldn't, therefore it's 2 stars from me.
Full of friendship, family and feuds, I highly recommend "Big Little Lies" . Read the book, watch the show, it's 5 stars.
A decent family story with realistic varied characters, I found that "The Last Anniversary" couldn't impress me with its mystery, but kept me interested with its relationships and family dramas. I'm intrigued by Liane Moriarty's writing and will keep her in mind when choosing my next books, however this book was just too long and the predictable reveal of the Munro baby means this book is only getting three stars from me.
A long drawn out thriller with the potential to be a good book if only 600 pages were removed! I found this book was trying too hard to be something it's not. I didn't hate "I am Pilgrim" but I really didn't love it either meaning I'll be giving this one 2 stars.
A disappointing YA read better suited for very very young adults. The main character is childish and immature which makes her unlikable in this romance story. Some cute moments but not enough to bring 'To All The Boys I've Loved Before" more than 2 stars.
A book to make you think about life and to see through its imperfections. I'm giving 'The Humans' 4 stars.
A quick YA read about two best friends in their final year of school. Full of dramas, this story kept me entertained but felt too immature and unrealistic and didn't encourage me to read the previous book. For all of this I score O'Porter's "Goose" two stars.
