"Conversations with Friends" was a wonderful story to listen to. I really enjoyed Aoife McMahon's narration and Sally Rooney's writing style has me hooked too. This is a witty character study which I devoured in a matter of days - 5 stars!
Full of poignant moments, "My Name is Lucy Barton" is a story of few words but one full of meaning. Lucy is looking back at her life and the people who have helped shape it. It's realistic and it's honest. I'm scoring my first Elizabeth Strout book 4 shiny stars!
"The Bone Clocks" was a massive disappointment. Full of characters I didn't care for and plot points that didn't have any relevance to the story whatsoever, I struggled to finish this book and am glad to have returned it to the library. Holly Sykes was a great character but those around her didn't add much to the story and just made it drag on and on and on. I didn't hate it, but I couldn't love it so "The Bone Clocks" gets 2 stars from me.
Yaa Gyasi's "Homegoing" has easily earned it's place in my list of favourites. A brutal, honest look at the slave trade and its legacy, the story explores the families of two half sisters with very different destinies. I fell in love with each of the characters and couldn't wait to pick it up again. Needless to say, it's 5 stars from me.
A book to make you think about life and to see through its imperfections. I'm giving 'The Humans' 4 stars.
