This little book contains a highly influential and powerful piece of writing in Martin Luther King Jr's "Letter From Birmingham Jail". This is a tiny book at a tiny price so I'd definitely recommend you pick it up if you haven't already read it.
Despite being short in length, "A River in Darkness" is a really heavy and difficult read. This is an educational story of one man's journey to and from North Korea, following propaganda offering paradise when they arrived. If you're not up to speed with this aspect of history and (even more sadly) the current political climate, I'd recommend picking this up.
It's my stop on the blog tour for 'The Aosawa Murders'. This is a complex whodunnit story, trying to uncover the truth behind a poisoning that wiped out a whole family. This story has a unique format that I really enjoyed. I'm giving this one a big thumbs up with 4 stars.
It's my stop on the blog tour for “The Snakes”, a compelling family drama about the hidden secrets of one dysfunctional family. If you're into a slow burning read, this is for you!
It's my stop on the blog tour for 'The Beekeeper of Aleppo'. This is a beautifully written story of survival. Following the journey of husband and wife Nuri and Afra from Syria to the UK, this is a heart warming, informative read that I would highly recommend - 5 stars!
"Spark" is a fun, slightly strange Japanese story of a comedian on a quest for success. While I didn't always understand the comedy, I still really enjoyed this one. It's 4 stars from me!
It's my stop on the “Blood on His Hands” blog tour! This is a well detailed, gripping piece of crime fiction. I was kept guessing who was responsible for the increasing body count right up until the end. It’s 4 stars from me!
“The Foundling” is a historical story set in Georgian London. This was my favourite read of the year so far and I think it'll be difficult to beat. The story is atmospheric, the characters are strong and the history is fascinating too. It’s 5 stars from me!
I was pleasantly surprised to enjoy 'Small Thoughts: and Poetry' and I'd encourage you to pick this up, even if you don't think that poetry is for you as this is conversational, like having a chat with one of your friends. This is an honest, emotional collection which I'm rating 4 stars!
“Everything My Mother Taught Me” is an impressive little story with a strong leading character. For such a quick read, this story packs a punch and I’d recommend giving it a try, it’s only short after all!
